India announce Men's T20 World Cup 2024 squad

India has announced their 15-member squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the squad that will try to bring the elusive glory under Rohit Sharma in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

Before the announcement, there had been a lot of buzz going around, especially with a number of possible contenders in the frame for the wicketkeeper selection. And finally, India has decided to go with the gloves of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson.

That will mean Pant's return to international cricket for the first time since he was involved in a life-threatening accident in December 2022, which has therefore kept him out for more than a year.

The IPL form of Shivam Dube thus made it impossible for him to be left out, as he had retained his place in the squad after featuring in the recent T20I series against Afghanistan. The 30-year-old has been in good form for Chennai Super Kings, amassing 350 runs in nine matches at a staggering strike rate of 172.41.

The Indian attack is spin-heavy, featuring Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal. Jasprit Bumrah will spearhead the pace battery, with Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Vice-Captain Hardik Pandya.

In that sense, there were no surprises in naming the batters. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav were all expected to prop up the top order alongside captain Rohit.

These players are Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, and two pace bowling reserves: Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.

Conspicuous by his absence from the list for India is big name KL Rahul, who was part of India's last two T20 World Cup campaigns in 2021 and 2022.
